This is a visual tribute to The City and Its Uncertain Walls by Haruki Murakami. It translates the idea behind the novel into a data illustration and data animation.

CITY illustration
The first image I created for this series. It uses the rhythm of The City and Its Uncertain Walls to transform the idea behind the novel into an image.
The overall grid resemble the uncertain walls in the story. The color, grayish lavender, is based on the protagonist: a nice person that somehow feels something is off.

CITY animation
The video below shows the way the idea for the book forms in the mind of Haruki Murakami and how he then writes a first draft for the story.
